Thoughts on writing from a poet's point of view...

Crossing the Threshold

2025.12.05

Friday, December 05, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Full moon through the window highlights a cold clear Winter is near pre-dawn sky.

...

Back to fantasy in Colore. Hope walks into Act Two with today's entry.

Some storytellers call it 'Crossing the Threshold.' Fantasy stories tend to exemplify it best: Alice jumps down the rabbit hole, Harry gets on the train, Dorothy gets swept away in a twister.

Something happens, some choices the Hero makes that make up the first Act make the trip possible. It's a whole new world for the Hero because of what they learned and decided in the story so far.

Which means it's time to introduce some more fantasy elements.

Which means magic for metaphors.

So that's for later today: Our Hero Crosses the Threshold.

...

Full moonlight on snow covered leaves announces the dawn.

Snow is moonlight's catalyst, a volume up amplifier for nighttime's glow.

Dawn.

Hope all's well with you today, Dear Reader.

Share a dream with someone you care about. Be surprised when they offer to help you build it.

Take care, say thanks, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

The Reality

2025.12.01

Monday, December 01, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

To express your imagination in a clear way, to paint your dreams... the ways of Art are the ways of life.

Why stories work at all should fill us all with wonder.

There's a rhythm to how a story works.

Many different theories and charts and plots explain why.

I thought I'd show you.

So, like a social media artist who paints a picture while you watch, I'm writing a story with and for you.

When a poet tells a story the whole thing turns Epic.

So... Wynn, The Poet, tells a story and the whole thing is turning Epic.

It's called Colore. Perhaps you're reading it?

I discuss writing it in some Wonder Fell posts, typically just before I post the next part of the story.

If you're an author, or would like to be, I hope it's a service to you.

There was so little opportunity before our textual age to job shadow a writer.

A painter takes an understudy, even your first day or so working a fast-food job you follow someone around to learn the work.

But writers... my dear, dear friends in craft... "Sit and Write" has been our best advice for so long.

Spoiler: It still is.

But at least I can offer you a guide to shadow while you sit, while you write.

For those without ambitions of story writing, there's more than intellectual interest to find in learning how a story works.

There's the truth of the reality of morality to see evidence for.

It's why we cheer and cry at the same moments in stories. The world works in a certain moral way and we all deep down know it.

Recognition of the reality of the way story works is a cure for Atheism.

Because why do they work?

So I share it with you as I write.

America, my Country, needs to remember morality, and not money, is the reason for a Government.

We're in the process of remembering.

As a race we've become dependent on facts.

I thought a factual representation of the reality of morality in a new light might do us all some good.

As always, thank you for reading, take care, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

Remember

2025.11.30

Sunday, November 30, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

About an hour till dawn.

Dawn is when the first rays of light are visible.

Sunrise is being able to see the whole sphere.

Dusk happens after The Sun sets.

Did you know?

It's the last visible rays of light... that's dusk.

Shop talk with Mr. Wonder Fell Sunshine.

O/

Hope all's well.

On with our show...

...

An airplane overhead, traffic headlights on the highway pickup their pace to herald dawn.

We write the morning, each morning; weave slept dreams back into reality.

"Why do such a thing?"
-Curious Reader

We all do. I'm just more literal about it.

Literally, literal.

What's known as writer's block, any creative block at all, is like being in a store full of your favorite things. All of it's free. It only costs the effort of picking it up.

The block enters because you can only choose one thing at a time.

How?

Remember you love creating. Remember these are your favorite things. You can't go wrong. It's not a hierarchy of choice. The idea is to create... which is your most favorite thing to do of all.

Get making. Pick one and go!

...

Strong dreams last night settle and sway.

We have something warm to drink, remember the day ahead, see it in our mind.

The course is plotted. We yawn. We stretch. We move forward remembering where forward goes.

Remember is a helpful well designed word.

We put memory pieces back together, reassemble dreams.

I do hope today goes well for you, lives up to your dreams of a good day.

Speaking of Hope, back to Colore for me.

Thank you for reading, take care, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

Moonlit Charged Snow

2025.11.29

Saturday, November 29, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

How's the day? O/

Sunrise soft on moonlit charged snow.

What powers moonlight has, a lake's reflection, this morning's snow cover, and lovers know.

Poets are often associated with the moon.

Lunar powered heart batteries power the muse.

But there's also poetry, neglected though it's been, in each sunrise.

How are we doing? O/

If numbers interest or impress you, if quantity measures more than amount for you, there's over 500 sunrises poetically recorded here on Wonder Fell.

In a row.

Day-to-day.

"Why do such a thing?"
-Curious Reader

Because there's something only poets can say about the sunrise. We know all about the poetic implications of moonlight. Romance and longing galore.

But the practical beautiful light of the Sun unfiltered or inebriated by the moon deserves its own poetry.

You ought to know a thing, live it, experience it before you express it.

So Wonder Fell is a poetical work of record, too.

A poem has to measure a new human experience with words, so a poet has to write a poem.

Sorry AI you can never write anything new, only imitate, so you will never be an artist of any endeavor.

AI can be used by artists to express Life in a new way.

New is the important word here.

If someone, or something, else could make the exact object of your creation then it has no opportunity to be considered Art.

Originality is a core aspect in every work of Art.

AI is a catalog experience; shopping on Amazon for Knowledge, Science, Art. It's already made.

Helpful, but nothing new.

So I write the sunrise. Poets slacked off and slept in for millennia. The dawn deserves its own verse.

Thank you for reading.

...

A new verse of Colore posted last night.

Every week we get more and more of the response: "Will you just post the whole thing? I want to read more."

This means the story formula is working.

It also means: The Author has been writing everyday for three decades and there's a good chance he knows what he's doing.

O/

Humility for the win. (And the pun.)

Take care, read some more, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

What's Next.

2025.11.28

Friday, November 28, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Do you love it? This life that you lead?

There's always at least one thing in your day you can love.

Recognize it.

The sunrise is consistent beauty, a joy to behold.

Functional, practical, reliable as reliability itself... The Sunrise.

Always worth the witness and the the welcome. O/

Good day Mr. Sun, thanks for making it possible.

And starting it off beautiful.

So I write each sunrise, reliable beautiful material in a push a button clear a pixel cosmetic day-to-day civilized world.

Everything we see on any pixelated screen is language. Even your favorite Disney movie is translated into computer code before it gets to your eyes.

Words and light are all our screens will ever show.

So I start the day off with words on light with new words under new light.

Thanks for reading.

...

Friday! Colore! Oy!

To continue our epic adventure on how to craft an epic adventure while I ghost craft an epic adventure for you...

What's next for our hero?

'What's Next' is what's next for our hero.

Hope has to decide what to do next.

What does what she found out have to do with what happened?

And how can she use that knowledge to help?

In other words: How can our hero be a hero?

This point in every story is an internal one. It happens in the hero's mind. It's not flashy, but it is what separates a good story from a great one.

Stories are about being human. Stories are not for entertainment; they're for remembering. They remind us we're not alone.

The 'What Next Point' exemplifies that truth best.

It's more than just a matter of what steps to take next. It's about matching meaning with morality.

We love heroes because they do what's right.

This is Hope's "How do I make this right?" moment.

It's the most important part for a writer in the story. The success of everything else regarding the story relies on the effectiveness of this moment.

It's where we truly start caring and empathizing with our hero.

I'll post it later today.

Thanks for the consideration, take care and make wonderful this wonderful day.

How About You?

2025.11.26

Wednesday, November 26, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Thanks for reading. Glad you're here. O/

On with our show...

...

Writers writing right, how's your craft?

So much more of the world is textual than it was a century, a decade, a year ago.

A great time to be a writer for sure.

Even if it's not your profession, the ability to write, and to write well, is a more important skill to have now than it ever was.

Sure AI can craft a sentence, but it can never say anything new.

Artificial Intelligence cannot paint a picture like Da Vinci if Leonardo never painted one first.

AI cannot write like you if you never wrote like you first.

We become better artists and authors by emulating masters. But mimicry is not the point, a better expression of self is.

A writer finds their voice, an artists finds their style; that most comfortable way for them to clearly express themselves.

But this act is not limited just to the Arts. Our whole life is an expression of our whole life. We are always creating. So it's dire we focus on developing our means of expression.

To clearly express to the world who you are ought to be at the top of everyone's to do list.

Every breath, action, and utterance shows Life who you are.

We're dreams doing our best to express ourselves with the material at hand. This includes our body.

We use what's around us to best show the world what we are.

Words and good deeds work best for me.

How about you?

Sing, paint, read, build something, cheer on a friend, teach, learn... what do you do best to best express you?

It's the secret to happiness if you find it and live it on purpose.

It's also called doing what you love.

Sun's up... overcast light rain and warm for the season.

Hope all's well. Consider what you love to do, what that says about you and how you best express you, take care and make wonderful this wonderful day.

What the First Line Is For

2025.11.16

Sunday, November 16, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Words with the sunrise. Welcome. O/

Just write.

That's the advice writers, would be and are... Just write.

Van Gogh told another painter something like, "If a voice tells you that you can't paint... paint. And paint and paint. Only by working will that voice be quieted."

So, writers with your blocks... shut up.

And just write.

Kindly said, of course.

It's not like you suddenly forgot how to make a sentence, so make a sentence.

What's called writer's block, any creative block at all actually, is a matter of specifics.

It's not that you can't write; it's that you feel you can't write that.

That being whatever you want to write about.

Here's the cure, and Van Gogh knew it too: Just write or paint or create anything at all.

Making art of any kind is a physical process, and objects and Artists tend to stay in motion unless interrupted.

So shut up and stop getting in the way. Just write, paint, draw, play music.

Stick figures! Nouns and verbs! Notes and sounds!

It's what the first line in every Wonder Fell morning post is for... takes the guesswork out, gets the pen moving.

Artists, this is work.

Writers, every sentence made is a fulfillment of your profession.

Our work is all giving with no guarantee of worldly return for our time spent laboring.

All acts of Art are acts of generosity.

We share of ourselves what we value most in the craft best suited to ourselves.

For some it's words, others lines and brushstrokes, others the melodies and harmonies of music.

Life is ultimately about sharing Life. All Art is a conversation rooted in generosity.

This journal, these poems, this Epic I work on, are all ways to speak with you, for you, for us.

Vincent saw a starry night a certain way and thought he might help you to see it that way too.

Van Gogh didn't need paints to see his starry night; you do.

Mark Twain didn't need pen and ink to go on adventures with Huck and Tom; you do.

Beethoven didn't need a piano to hear the moonlight's sonata; you do.

All Art is generosity.

We can tell so much about a culture by the Art it values.

America's been a quick shock treatment entertain me now connoisseur culture for a century or so now.

But there's more to life than speeding it up.

There's quiet considerations.

A sunrise. A sunset. The wag of a dog. The purr of a cat. What laughter is for. And love. And wonder. And love.

What happens when you read, see a painting, hear a song?

How do you know me?

My dreams are here. I share them with your dreams every time you read.

Are we good friends yet?

Let's check.

Are you glad to see me wave? O/

That's your relationship meter for us: Your reaction to the Circle-Slash. O/

Thank you for sharing dreams every morning.

Thank you artists of all crafts for your generosity.

Thank you readers for your consideration and the dreams you bring to my words.

Take care and make wonderful this wonderful day.

This Way of Showing the Craft

2025.11.14

Friday, November 14, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Today...made it.

Welcome to the show. O/

Up, up and away we go...

...

Some breakfast, some coffee, some tea. One for you, one for me.

A new day, transitions in the air. The winds of change are quite a literal experience.

You sense them when you slow down and notice, simply listen to your life.

It's Friday, so another verse of Colore will magically appear later today.

Days ago I wrote, like watching an artist on social media paint a picture, I'd write about the making of Colore on Wonder Fell as I reveal it... piece by piece.

Every story has parts. Like vanishing points and horizon lines for Artists, the ways of story help writers craft better stories.

I'm a poet writing a story because it's the best genre to share the message.

Like Wonder Fell... a journal is the best genre to showcase how words are tied to identity. Though there are no personal pictures of me here, if you read a few posts you start to know me in a way pictures could never say.

It's important we recognize that today. The Internet has made sharing words so easy.

We must not forget that when we share words we are in fact sharing part of ourselves.

O/ <– That's my latest online self-portrait... a friendly introduction, symbolic though it may be.

Thanks for reading and getting to know me.

...

Back to Colore.

The opening scene is set. There's an interesting character in an interesting situation. Everything is in epic proportions, which is right where it should be... being an Epic.

A few deep questions regarding the nature of life and morality were hinted at, so not only Epic but Epic Literature.

What's next?

Time to say what the story is all about.

We state the moral theme, the lesson to be learned: What our hero has to figure out to save her world.

It only has to be stated in the story, not necessarily to the main hero.

Someone could say it to the family dog... perhaps.

What's morally true for one is morally true for all, after all.

If you're an Artist of any craft, this way of showing the craft as Colore unfolds is at least interesting. People intrigued by the creative process, stories in general, will also find interest here.

My Artists and Creative Friends, thank you for reading.

Let's see what Hope has to learn today and meet some of her family for breakfast.

How does a genius talk about encountering a dragon? O.o

She'll have to do better than emojis for sure.

Take care and make wonderful this wonderful day.
