Write

Thoughts on writing from a poet's point of view...

Behind the Wizard's Curtain

I do this as a Poet writing a story. There is a major distinction here.

Friday, January 23, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Tagline done. How's the day? O/

...

Business thoughts this morning.

Colore. The story posts a new verse every Friday... that's the way it's set up at present.

What I'd like to do, and it is ambitious and unheard of, is post a new verse of Colore everyday along with Wonder Fell.

As 'live' a process as possible to writing a tale.

So today is for setting that up.

I may still post a new verse later today.

The important thing for a writer is to find the way they work best. Prolific and continuous for this Ghos+.

If you read an Archaic Slab at the end of a post, you'll see I don't edit much. It's experience; it's trust of voice.

It's the same with prose.

No vanity... just a point of order for business.

My sentiments are that for a time Wonder Fell is to become a 'discuss what's occurring craftwise in Colore' place of record.

With all the talk on the power of Story found here... how about I walk you through the process of creating one?

As I create one.

So I'll take you behind the Wizard's Curtain in Oz and show you how the magic is made as we make the magic.

What works for one creative endeavor works for them all. The steps we'll go through work for all Artists, for all people who have a dream they want to make real.

I do this as a Poet writing a story.

There is a major distinction here.

Poets use the shape of the genre and the sounds it welcomes to reinforce the metaphors we're making.

Colore is a Hero's adventure through a Wonderland of Dreams juxtaposed to snippets of speeches and conversations we hear in our lives.

The pairing of the two demonstrates the power of Story in what we call The Real World.

Colore will show how not listening to the wisdom of Story is the cause for all the hardship in our lives.

Some will find interest in the How-to thinking in some Wonder Fell posts. Others will just want to read the tales.

Either way thank you for reading.

You see... in order to write a good story you have to have a sense of morality always in mind.

If there is one act that for certain would heal my Country right now it's: Keeping a sense of morality in everything we do.

There is a right way to live. The way of Story shows us how.

Expect a change in Wonder Fell soon.

More Prose and Practical Process.

Artists rarely talk about how we do what we do. And though it's beyond what numbers can measure, the creative process can be shared and replicated... creatively.

(Sorry AI. You can never create anything... only regurgitate.)

Take care, thanks for reading (prose-y-er days ahead!), and make wonderful this wonderful day.

My Country Could Use Some Help

The way a plumber, electrician, or carpenter fixes up your home so you can have a better life, so the poet works with language.

Thursday, January 22, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Glad you're back. O/

On with our show...

...

Getting the words right... my life's work.

You see the craft of the Poet is a very practical thing. The way a plumber, electrician, or carpenter fixes up your home so you can have a better life, so the Poet works with language.

Your home and your words haven't always been here. Someone had to build them, care for them, keep them going.

Imagine your life without words. We're monkeys without the work I do.

We take language for granted because we rely on it, but words are made.

There are times when our words aren't doing justice to our shared experience.

Like lately.

Enter Poets.

Because Love always begs definition Poets are associated with romance. But my business is the word business. Assuring we have ways to best express our experience is what Poets are for.

A carpenter helps you fix your front door. A Poet helps you heal your language.

Sure you could fix the door yourself. Maybe watch a YouTube How To or ask an AI bot to walk you through it.

But the professional who's been fixing doors everyday for nearly three decades is going to do a better job than you or AI.

And so I write.

Making words to overcome impossible situations is how I spent almost everyday of my adult life.

My Country could use some help.

Healing language finding, and at times making the right words, is my business.

Enter Colore.

The stories we share aren't representing our best selves. Moreso, our words don't mean all they could, so they don't mean all they should.

If we want to be patriotic about it: In a Nation with a Living Document as its foundation, Poets are our Country's best defense.

And so I write.

The idea of Colore is to remind us the power of our words and stories.

The juxtaposition of speeches and conversations in our day to day life (The Side-stories) with that of a story in a world of stories helps prove the point.

Our language is not only how we define things but also ourselves.

We can only ever be as good as our understanding of our words.

A story is the best genre to remind us of the power of, and our responsibility for, our stories.

Colore will remain entertaining to some degree. Our stories go best when they are.

But a story's point and purpose isn't entertainment. Every tale told is a reminder of what it means to be human.

In earlier entries I wrote, like a social media artist painting a picture while you watch, I'd write about the crafting of Colore as I write it. Consider today's post doing that.

Writers. O/ Make sure you know why you're writing whatever you're working on.

"Because I'm good at writing," is never reason enough to write anything at all.

"Because I have something important to share," is the best reason to write anything at all.

As always, thank you for reading.

Take care and make wonderful this wonderful day.

We Need Your Words for Medicine

So long as we keep paying for bad News, we're going to keep paying for bad News.

Tuesday, January 20, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Welcome back. O/

Wonder fell, Wonder fell,
Who's got the spell?

The magic's in the words.
ABC's to seize your dreams.

Thanks for using your magic to bring these words to life.

They're just blips of light or ink on a page without your magic. So thank you.

Do you see it now? The real issue with the constant barrage of bad News and negative opinions?

Every time someone reads it, it's brought to Life.

Enter your new understanding of the power of The Arts.

This is by no means a call for censorship. No. This is a call for a responsibility of readership.

Even if it's only to dismiss it, to roll your eyes and cast it away, what you read and witness becomes a part of your world through your witness of it.

What do you want to have more of in your life? See it more often. Read it. Make it live in your world, so it can live in The World.

Words and images matter so much. Our cellphone staring, screens everywhere glaring, made us go numb and forget.

When we see something we read it. The understanding and evaluation of it becomes a part of our day. And so it lives in The World through the viewer.

What do you fill your day with? What stories are your considerations?

They live through you.

It's a question of values.

...

So long as we keep paying for bad News, we're going to keep paying for bad News.

The more profitable we make good News the more profit will be gained from creating it.

It really is that simple.

When good News pays the bills everyone wins.

What can you do?

Actively choose what you watch and listen to.

If a doom and gloom story shows on a screen, if a jockey starts spouting hate, change the channel. There are so many better ways to feed your day.

You see, when we feed on something for awhile we come to depend on it.

We've become a Nation addicted to tragedy.

Shock and spectacle have ruled the airwaves. Let's cut it out. Stop feeding the synthesized Hell. Actively choose to watch something else.

Don't be quiet about your choice.

Let people know.

"I stopped reading, watching, listening to bad News. Now, I get my good News here."
-Reader Helping to Save Our Country

Again: So long as we keep paying for bad News, we're going to keep paying for bad News.

Artists, Musicians, Writers! This is where we can help.

Flood the airwaves with your works of Hope.

Life is still worth waking up for.

Remind The World.

Right now we need your Art, your music, your words for medicine.

Artists! Administer The World its dose!

Be bold. Be seen. Be beautifully prolific.

Lift us up where we've been pulled down for so long.

The Internet is the biggest boon for creatives since the printing press. Use it. Flex the flexibility and freedom found there and share your wonderful expressions.

The World isn't going to heal itself; our stories are.

Wonder Fell is here everyday to help you keep it going.

Hollywood and Broadway this means you, too.

Stop feeding the beast of tragedy, people need hope. You're both factories of Hope or Hell. The choice is yours. The World is a better place than we've been portraying it to be.

Entertainers time to take some responsibility for the State of our Country.

When the News becomes entertainment, it's time for our entertainers to provide the News.

Every work of Art shows a moral way. America's moral compass has been spinning for decades.

Our stories, our Arts and Entertainment, are the way to reestablish Our True North.

As always, thank you for reading.

Take care, share some good News, share some Art, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

Rhythm

It's a question of writers since the dawn of the typewriter... to handwrite or to type?

Monday, January 19, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

Another one. A sunrise on its way. A journal entry, too.

Glad you're here.

A circle-slash wave for a hello. O/

And away we go.

On with our show...

...

Do you ever examine the Archaic Slabs at the end of each entry?

It's a question of writers since the dawn of the typewriter... to handwrite or to type?

Comfort is the most important consideration. But does the means of expression, the tools used to shape the words, change the output?

The answer, after decades of practice for this writer, is yes.

"Uh-oh."
-Writer Wanting to Do Their Best Work

The reason, again, is comfort. How quick your dreams fly to the page matters.

The rhythm in which we write a sentence is the best rhythm to read the sentence.

I type over a hundred words per minute. I could finish a Wonder Fell entry in five minutes. But there's more to writing than pushing keys.

A journal, for my own tastes, goes better handwritten. It's more personal. When you handwrite the font choice is: You.

Consider music, it helps the analogy. The same popular song sounds different played on a piano versus a guitar.

News of the day and quick catharsis beach reads go best typed. The dreams of the writer march with the click of the keys.

But a long lingering literary opus, a romance for the ages, a journal singing each sunrise, is a musical score best arranged for handwriting.

We can type slow, longhand fast, a piano can rock and roll wail; but what each is most comfortable showcasing is the point here.

Ballads live comfortable lives in piano keys; beach read best sellers love a laptop.

Consider the rhythm of your prose.

Do you want to march the reader along to the story's action? Then tip-tap type away.

Do you want readers to daydream deep into your paragraphs? Pick a pen and glide fantastic with your Fountain or Bic.

How thumb-slapping translates musically to prose I'll leave other authors to measure. It's still too slow and cumbersome a process for these opposable digits to weigh.

Writers! Thank you again for reading. Keep going. The world needs words from people who value words as much as we do right now.

Words are always The World's best medicine.

Take care, write your most comfortable rhythm, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

Your Dream and Your Voice

Being a poet, sooner or later, I ought to write about mush.

Thursday, January 15, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

At it again. O/

Still a few hours till sunrise.

Being a poet, sooner or later, I ought to write about mush.

And misconception.

There's more to being a poet than the card aisle at The Pharmacy.

Though, a poem is medicine when you read it right.

Conciseness and clarity of language is the aim of every poet.

We make better and new ways to express what it is to be alive through words.

We're quality control for words themselves.

Always here to make certain we get as much out of our language as we intend to express.

Our worlds run on words. Poets expand what is possible for language to say.

And so, poets widen what is possible for us to share.

Our relationships are able to deepen because of the work I do.

We can know each other better.

...

Colore marches on. There's already a side-story posted this week.

The next main story verse introduces us to The New World our heroes find themselves in.

From the author's point of view, it's important certain details are set-up to ensure cohesion to the storyline that follows.

This is where the difference in story writer's methods becomes practical.

If you write a story by the seat of your pants, you do your plotting as you go.

A pantser's plot is called: Their First Draft.

As I'm writing Colore as 'live' a process as possible, and I post finished pieces of The Epic at least weekly, the dream of the story (the plot) has to be complete in my mind. There's no turning back once posted to edit.

This would be considered a job-hazard to most writers; I consider it fun.

And didactic.

It's a matter of trusting your dream and your voice.

This author's been dreaming and writing (though never sought publication) everyday for nearly three decades.

Humbly, Colore is in competent hands.

I wouldn't attempt it if I thought otherwise. The message is too important.

There are a lot of things America's been saying about a lot of things in the same ways for a long time. (Hint: The Epic's Name)

Time to upgrade our language about how we talk about some very serious concerns.

Poet's work.

And so I write.

Take care, know your work (and worth), and make wonderful this wonderful day.

The Stories You Tell Yourself

What to wear today?

Monday, January 12, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

What an interesting place, our World... this Life.

Remove human drama for a moment and consider what we have to witness.

There's The Sun.
Different angles and intervals of light rule the days.
The oceans wave to churn.
Air picks up its pace, or slows, in a great dance called wind.
Water is a fashion show model always changing outfits to suit the scene.

Ice, snow, steam, and rain; mist, hail, and slush... water cycles a perpetual strut, the sky for its catwalk, the clouds for backstage dressing rooms.

What to wear today?

Then there's the land with its conditions. Certain seeds only grow in certain soil.

Mother Nature dresses differently for different temperatures.

Arctic snowmen have nothing to wear in The Amazon.

Everything grows here as a function of time. Even rocks erode and change shape. Some stories call it impermanence, but it's just what time is for.

Life is a circle going somewhere; Time spins the wheel.

Where we're going depends on the stories you tell yourself.

There's too much wonder, too much order, too much beauty and the possibility for love, for Life to be arbitrary.

Why do stories work? The answer is not plot points, three act structure, or The Hero's Cycle.

Those are maps for methods. Why the same story makes people of all shapes, sizes, and cultures laugh and cry at the same moments is evidence there's more to Life than microscopes can measure.

Perhaps Science stays away from the question of why for reasons of foresight. Story and Art already have the question of why well under control.

Wonder Fell addresses the power of story often; it's the gateway to faith.

There's no preaching here. We all must find our own way. Which means finding the stories that best help us understand and experience all Life has to offer.

Speaking of stories, Colore is about to take-off into more fantastical fun.

I'm glad to be able to share some stories with you. I hope (and Hope does, too) you enjoy them.

As always, thank you for reading, take care and make wonderful this wonderful day.

The Scientist and The Sentence

2026.01.02

Friday, January 02, 2026

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

The Moon is bright and so are you. O/

Great to be read by you again. Hope all's well.

On with our show...

...

Friday... so expect another verse of Colore to appear later today.

Writing about writing an American Epic while writing it brings up some new questions and possibilities.

The pacing of posts stays the same due to the requirements of the story. Being a fantasy tale of sorts, details of the world's reality need to be fleshed out in advance.

To some degree.

I've been working those out.

So much of the joy of writing a story comes in the act of discovery.

Authors tend to stress over writing it 'right.'

We study books on craft. And we should.

The desire to better understand our work is self-affirming and potentially beneficial to the finished product.

Potentially because getting too focused on craft dizzies up the dreams we're attempting to convey with details.

If you know how to tell a child a story, and how to write a sentence, you can write a book.

Once upon a time there was an interesting character who had an issue. Until one day something happened that needed fixing. Fixing this issue solved the interesting character's issue. The End.

There are hundreds of years of literary theories, some practical, some far-out fantastical, to explain in detail the 'Once Upon a Time' process of story.

Something about you knows it. Is it innate?

Every known culture knows the same way of story.

We're born into it. The ways of story are as much a part of Life as water is.

The World cannot exist without story.

A Scientist would have to follow the way of story to attempt to prove or disprove that statement...

Once upon a time there was a Scientist who wanted to prove The World's dependency on Story.
Suddenly, the previous sentence appeared.
The Scientist read it, wondered, and called it Proof.
And The Scientist and The Sentence lived happily ever after in a state of wonder.

Thanks for reading, take care, and make wonderful this wonderful day.

Developing a Practice

2025.12.30

Tuesday, December 30, 2025

Good morning, The Wonder Fell Way.

We write. We draw. We sing and strum. We create!

O/

Thank you Artists of all kinds for showing the world it's Beautiful.

Keep going.

More than hobby or craft, it's generosity.

Those quiet moments we spend alone in daydreams, when the busy world does its busy, yearn to be shared.

We sit quiet, observe our minds, feel with our imagination the world... we feast on dreams.

"Where do you come up with your ideas?"
-Friends Who Don't Consider Themselves Creative But Are Always Quite Busy

We stare at walls, we do the dishes, we gather dreams.

Alone time... introspection is all part of the process of Art.

The best dreams come in quiet safe places,
Alone, or with friendly trustworthy faces.

Our dreams are beautiful; that's why they're worth sharing.

But it is easy to be lulled into a lullaby of idleness by them.

This is why it's important to have a practice set up: to develop the habit of making.

That means allotting time to wander, to daydream, to be idle.

Remember gathering is part of the process, too.

Everyday doings: laundry, washing dishes, showering; are great times to gather dreams.

Your body is comfortable with the tasks.

Unless you jog everyday, a walk is always better than a run for gathering dreams.

Your body knows what's required.

So there's no deliberation required.

This is another, perhaps the most important, reason for developing a practice. Your body gets comfortable with the process of writing, of drawing, of singing and strumming. And because it's comfortable dreams come easy to fill the craft.

Just show up around the same time everyday and make something. After sometime the dreams will come.

When we try, when we force, the trying and the forcing go into the work and are shared with the audience.

It's disingenuous somehow. Like you don't believe it's good. That disbelief, then, goes into your creation.

Cut it out.

Show up.

Remember you love making and make!

Write a simple sentence. Draw a stick figure. Sing a scale. Get into the rhythm of making.

Writers often talk about the different ways of making a story. There's two camps: Plotters and Pantsers.

Plotters make a map and follow it. Pantsers sit and write by the seat of their pants.

These are actually the same process; it's only a matter of trust and timing.

Stories all work in a certain way. There are plenty of books and courses to show how.

The writer makes a character and then takes them through the certain ways of a story.

The metaphors and details are all that's new.

We can make those before we start writing (plotter), or while we write (pantser).

For me, I make a mental note (sometimes written) of "this happens then this happens then this happens...end scene," just a short list before I write each scene. A quick plot to get my pants comfortable.

Why get into the car if you don't know where you're going?

This works for all forms of writing and Art. Know where your Art is going and know the trip to be worth the ride. Your enjoyment of your creation is infectious.

Do you recall driving backroads when the sky through the trees turned a beautiful shade of you-didn't-know-skies-came-in-that-color?

Bring back that feeling while you write if you want your writing beautiful.

Just be in the feeling of what you want to share, then be sincere.

Enthusiasm is always a great feeling to have while creating; it gets viewers excited to see your work, and to be alive.

Sun's up. Clear, cool day in December.

Thanks for reading, work some today, and make wonderful this wonderful day.
